I'm sitting in the Bangalore office playing with My Web 2.0. This has been kept under wraps up until now, even to other Search Y! employees. So this is my first time looking at it and playing with it.
I think I'm going to have to let it grow in order to comment on its usefulness. Because the power of this depends on a large social network and user base. I'll also have to weed myself past Ken Norton's Blog links... Just kidding Ken, I must have happened to sign in as you were using it.
The tool is nice, but I really see the benefit being outside of the My Web interface. Where this shines is within Yahoo! Search results. Seeing matching saved results from my social network has tremendous value. As long as the results are as relevant or more relevant than the regular results. But that might be tricky.
Here's an example: I searched for "How to buy a digital camera" the my web results looked something like this:
My Web: 7 Results for how to buy a digital camera
Not so helpful yet. And I don't even know who these people are. So it appears to be true that the results are only as good as your social network.
Like I said... I think I'm going to have to wait and see.
The funny thing is, I can see how this could get competitive. I mean between people in your social network. Who links to the coolest sites? Who has the most links? Who tags the best? Why am I not in this persons contact list? Heh.
A couple of more comments before I head to a meeting... I wish the functionality of adding a saved site was in-line... it takes too long for the pop up to load... editing and tagging should be in-line as well... I don't like having to place a comma between tags... what the hell are tags anyway?... the majority of yahoo users will have no clue... does this have mass appeal?... i want to see my own saved stuff in my community view, this is the same problem 360 has with it's main page, you can't see your own additions... there's more... but again, let's let it grow. I know Yahoo! is not done with this.
