We're gonna have a geek dinner, tonight! A bunch of us Santa Cruz nerd types are getting together to chat. We'll be at the Center Street Grill, downtown.
This is a long time coming. There are lots of people living here that work in the industry. Mostly, like myself, "over the hill" (silicon valley). But we never see each other. Presumably we have lots in common. Some of the things we'll discuss tonight are co-working, establishing community, finding ways to build out the industry here, creating regular events such as BarCamps, panels, hack days, and dev houses. See the thing is, Santa Cruz is too nice to leave.
Santa Cruz has a long history of geek inhabitants. At one time, it had the largest concentration of Geek Houses around. Who knows, it may still... It just gets overshadowed by SF. So tonight will be the first of many events to put SC back on the tech map.
