Tagging - Spaces!

Will someone please explain to us all why tagging without spaces is still around? I believe this was one of the biggest mistakes made by the Web 2.0 community. Whether it was del.icio.us or flickr or someone else, it was an uber geek manner of classification that looked pretty in cloud form. It's time that this gets fixed and tags become standardized around comma separation, otherwise frustration will prevail.

Thomas Vander Wal is a big proponent of this. I'm having coffee with him tomorrow, maybe he knows why I can't tag with spaces in the places I enjoy. (flickr's quote system doesn't count)

Comments

Tools like Flickr now allow for comma delimited tag entry (a positive undocumented feature). Regular people in the Western part of the world understand strings of words and multi-word terms and how to delimit them with commas.
