Shopping Blogs

Brian Smith over at the Comparison Engines blog wrote a compelling piece about blogging and shopping sites.  I tend to agree. I think the main reason why comparison sites don't do this is that they have no real editorial experience and are afraid to use their own voice when writing about products. Comparison sites are supposed to be agnostic to preference. Their job is to let you find what you want and get you out the door, not help you discover things. Comparison sites use data to merchandise. Popularity, keywords, etc. They tend to shy away from actually saying "this product is cool." It might piss off other merchants or manufacturers. That's the last thing they want to do.

But it's time to change that mentality. As Brian points out it can be lucrative and will provide a tremendous new channel for acquisition and retention. We need to let our freak flag fly and start blogging. If anything it's a super easy way to get some information out there...

Here are some of the best shopping blogs out there:

  1. Mighty Goods - Queen of all product blogs
  2. Uncrate
  3. Outblush
  4. Mad Professor
  5. The Impulsive Buy
  6. Popgadget
  7. Cool Mom Picks
  8. Woot
  9. Slave To Target
  10. FreshArrival

Thanks so much for the tips. I LOVE shopping blogs, unfortunately for my skinny wallet. Yikes.

Speaking about shopping, I worked in retail for over 10 years and witnessed the stress that consumers go through. That's why its important to complete your christmas shopping early. Black friday is the most stressful day of all. Is it really worth it. I came across a website which offers Home & Garden products to the public at wholesale prices. There is no minumum to buy and shipping is only $7.50 regardless of how much you buy. Did all my Christmas shopping for under $300.00. You must see. Go to bayonacity.com

May I suggest that if people are online shopping and they need some ideas for kids of all ages, AreYouGame.com is a really cool site. They have over 2,000 games and toys for sell. Pretty much any board game you love, they have. It's a great site and in speaking with customer service, they were really nice as well (a rarity when it gets close to the holidays). I suggest everyone try it out.

FragrancesandMore.biz has a wonderful online shopping guide for purchasing Fragrances and Perfume on the Internet.

Okay Skinny Wallet... That was funny! Anyway, I have just submitted my new high-end gift store to Google, Yahoo and what seems like a million other search engines and directores... And now, from what I've read... the wait begins.

A single mom, I have worked my full time job and at the same time built my store full time by working 18 and 20 hour days since December 8th and now I'm hoping that "pro shoppers" like yourself will take a look and give me an opinion of the fabulous and unique gifts you'll find at my store.

I know you're busy, but if you can find time to take a peek and nose around a little, then drop me a line of feedback, I'll be forever grateful!

First of all, thanks for the great resources above. I agree that comparison shopping engines should be agnostic to preferences. Consumers do research for a product independent of price before looking to buy at the most cost effective way. Online shopping does involve risk that in-store shopping does not -- the risk of being delivered a lemon or dealing with unscrupulous vendor. Shoppers have to weigh all this information along with price before making a decision.

online shopping is rapidly evolving nowadays...

i like mightygoods its such a great site. i am starting to shop online more and more. you can find some good deals.

Hi...I'm Timothy

I agree to you but I think not all websites offers a great shopping sites. But there is a unique website that really captures my eyes because they offers a fashionable yet affordable wholesale jackets. It really fantastic.
